Praise for Arctic Play

“Mahato brilliantly lurches her readers between the sublime and the unsightly, longing and loss, activism and complicity, privilege and marginalization. Arctic Play shipwrecks and moors us at the intersection of the human and more-than-human where we collectively weather the climate crisis.” ~ Jasmine Elizabeth Smith, South Flight

"Arctic Play charts its own unique territory—ending up where comics, theater, and poetry meet. Mahato channels Apollinaire by way of Eric Carle and sends the reader on an unforgettable Arctic journey through alien nature and the looming threat of ecological collapse. A tour de force from one of our most exciting book artists." ~ Johnny Damm Failure Biographies

The first Act comprises a series of diagram poems about Arctic encounters that trace the gridlines of woven paper. The unstable, layered surfaces of the grids disrupt the attempt to catalog or claim perspectival ownership.
